Getting Started with SharePoint Framework (SPFx): Design and Build Engaging Intelligent Applications Using SharePoint Framework

SharePoint Framework development can feel like several subjects at once: project setup, client-side web parts, SharePoint data, JavaScript frameworks, and deployment. Vipul Jain’s guide brings those pieces together in a 12-chapter introduction, moving from the SPFx toolchain and development environment to working examples and extensions.

Start with the SPFx development workflow

The opening chapters introduce the framework, its development tools, and the structure of a web-part project. Readers then follow the steps for creating a first client-side web part, testing it in a workbench, and making sense of the files and folders behind the solution. That foundation gives the later, more specialized topics a practical context.

Connect web parts to SharePoint

Jain covers access to SharePoint objects, mock data, lists and list items, and web-part property panes. The book also examines hosting options and CRUD operations using JavaScript approaches, including an introduction to React. These topics help readers understand how a web part’s configuration, data, and deployment fit into a working SPFx solution.

Explore examples, extensions, and components

Later chapters turn to logging and debugging, with examples that include a jQuery accordion and a Microsoft Teams tab. The guide also introduces application customizers, field customizers, ListView Command Sets, and the SharePoint Framework library component type, before wrapping up with frequently asked questions.

A grounded starting point for SharePoint developers

This book is suited to SharePoint developers, technical specialists, and newcomers who already have basic HTML, JavaScript, and CSS knowledge. One important note for readers: its examples are based on SPFx version 1.10.0, identified in the book as the version current when it was written. Use it for its step-by-step introduction to the framework, while checking current documentation for version-sensitive setup details.
